Early Buxton
Early Families of Buxton, Maine
With a possible publication date of 2022 a new book is in progress in the Early Families series by York Co. genealogist Fred Boyle. Buxton, originally called Narraganset No. 1, is located in northern York Co. It is unique for research in that its vital records begin in the mid-18th century. The records of its early church are published. It was the subject of genealogical research by a number of family genealogists, particularly Cyrus Woodman who published his The Woodmans of Buxton, Maine in 1874. It also has a very active Buxton-Hollis Historical Society with a building that houses its collections. (There is a strong collaboration between the Society and the author.) Fifty-five of its citizens have been chronicled in the Maine in 1790 series. Now a nonogenarian Boyle's major work will be one of compiling records and updating the families. As in his previous books the cut-off will be 1900. Those with unique family records are asked to send their records (records in family Bibles, personal records/accounts) to the author.
